Title
STAMP

Medium
Digital drawing, Inkjet printing on rice paper

Started from the word STAMP, I recreated a map of Zhongshan Road, the principle east-west arterial road in my hometown city, Guangzhou. As one of the three largest cities in China, it locates at the heart of the most-populous built-up metropolitan area in mainland, and is still growing and expanding with impressive speed. Though it has a history of over 2,200 years since the Silk Road, it is not hard to imagine what urbanization has gone through to transform this land into today's alpha global city. On top of the Movable Type (the oldest printing and typography technology) visual approach of the map, I designed 35 individual stamps for 35 historical interests that had been "removed" due to the city development in the past 50 years. Each stamp was deliberately drawn to embody and in memory of a lost age associated with those historical monuments.
